Small Business Management Program for ODOT

Small Business Management Program for ODOT

    Small Business Management program ODOT for, offered in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation, includes nine classes geared to helping contractors learn how to do business with ODOT.It will also be helpful to contractors who have had contracts with ODOT learn more about the process. Each class is devoted to small business management topics, understanding ODOT-specific issues, and peer group discussions. In addition, one-on-one confidential business advising, from an experienced SBDC advisor, is included at no additional charge.

    • Want to learn more about the ORPIN system and how to find contracts?

    • Interested in learning how to prepare accurate and effective bids?

    • Need to understand financial statements, cash flow projections, and other financial details of your business?

    • Like to understand hiring and employment regulations? Insurance and bonding?

    • Have an interest in developing top quality marketing materials and forming a marketing plan?

    See the program schedule below for more details. The program is 6-9 pm, on Mondays, January 7-March 18, 2013 (a total of 9 class sessions). Each 3-hour class will be devoted to small business management topics, understanding ODOT-specific issues, and peer group discussion. In addition, businesses will be eligible to receive one-on-one confidential business advising from an experienced advisor at the SBDC at no additional cost.

     

    Eligibility

    Your company must be:

    • certified as an Emerging Small Business (ESB), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), or Women Business Enterprise (WBE)

    • capable of performing an ODOT contract (construction or support services that may be associated with transportation or its related services or facilities)

    The reduced registration fee is only $200! (That’s less than $10 an hour for the class time alone.)This program is too good to miss!  Similar programs cost $1700. 

    Limited registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only eligible firms who meet the criteria and send in their application and registration fees will be accepted.

    Suzanne Penegor owned a local log trucking brokerage for 16 years. Suzanne is a graduate of the University of Oregon. She was in sales/marketing for 11 years at Seneca Sawmill Co. in Eugene. Suzanne took computer classes for her business, at the Lane SBDC, prior to working here. She has been a business instructor/advisor for Lane's Small Business Development Center for 4 years.

    Suzanne teaches the First Steps/Going Into Business class.

    I request business management counseling from the Small Business Administration (SBA)through the SBDC. I agree to cooperate should I be selected to participate in surveys designed to evaluate the SBDC (SBA) assistance services. I authorize SBDC (SBA) to furnish relevant information to the assigned management counselor(s) although I expect that information to be held in strict confidence to the extent allowable by law. I agree to provide certain demographic, business, economic, and financial data in order for  the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network to provide me with quality business counseling services as well as to garner statistical support for their network.

    I further understand that any Small Business Development Center (SBDC) counselor has agreed not to: (1) recommend goods or services from sources in which he/she has an interest, and (2) accept fees or commissions developing from this counseling relationship.
