Basic Horticulture Certificate

Earn basic horticultural certification; prepare for a career in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, and greenhouse management.This program provides a solid foundation of horticultural methodology for people interested in advancing their knowledge of horticultural science and practice. Participants will become familiar with topics such as plant propagation, pest control, soil science, and sustainable landscaping and agriculture. This is a great way to explore career paths and build basic knowledge. Classes meet 2 hours a week for 8-10 weeks to prepare for various growing seasons during the year. This is the foundation level, and more advanced levels will be offered in the future.

Basic Horticulture Cert., Module 2:

Intermediate Sustainable Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscape, and Greenhouse Management

Continuation to earn basic horticultural certification to prepare for a career in sustainable agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, and greenhouse management. Students will build on their foundational skills and introductory level knowledge acquired in Module 1, as they advance their knowledge of horticultural science, methodology and practice. Participants will be introduced to intermediate level topics in plant propagation, irrigation, greenhouse management, integrated pest management and control, soil fertility and crop yield, landscape design, food systems, sustainable landscaping design and agriculture, and more. Classes meet two hours a week for 10 weeks to prepare for various growing seasons during the year. Hands-on experience and practical applications will be offered during this course.

Program consists of three modules that may be taken in any order, however Modules I-3 are required for certification. Class is noncredit, but transcripts will be provided.
